چکیده
Purpose. This work aims to study the tunnel face stability (Algiers subway Tunnel) and evaluate common numerical procedures that are used for analyzing stability. Two-dimensional (2D) three-dimensional (3D) Finite Element (FE) modeling using PLAXIS programs. Methodology. Tunneling is executed by NATM method; two types of calculations used. The first one done reducing applied pressure until collapsed. second calculation method involves Phi-c (the angle internal friction bonding) reduction method, which based on calculating safety factor shear strength soil. Both methods 2D 3D FE-modelling. Findings. It found determining an important consideration avoid failure or excessive deformations with resulting in more precise findings than analytical methods. Originality. originality this use both modelling, combined approaches: structural analysis plastic state Practical value. illustrates much better method. Moreover, result FE-modelling gives a prediction comparing results.

Roof Tunnel Stability by Wedge Analysis
A jointed rock mass presents a more complex design problem than the other rock masses. The complexity arises from the number (greater than two) of joint sets which define the degree of discontinuity of medium. The condition that arises in these types of rock masses is the generation of discrete rock blocks, of various geometries. They defined by the natural fracture surfaces and the excavation...
متن کاملMulti-factorial Analysis on Vault Stability of an Unsymmetrically Loaded Tunnel Using Response Surface Method
This study investigated the vault settlement characteristics of an unsymmetrically loaded tunnel which was excavated by annular excavation via core rock support method. Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to design the experiments, evaluate the results with the purpose of optimizing the value of design parameters for reducing the vault settlement. The parameters such as horizontal d...
متن کاملFinite Elements for Shallow-Water Equation Ocean Models
The finite-element spatial discretization of the linear shallow-water equations on unstructured triangular meshes is examined in the context of a semi-implicit temporal discretization. Triangular finite elements are attractive for ocean modeling because of their flexibility for representing irregular boundaries and for local mesh refinement. The semi-implicit scheme is beneficial because it slo...
متن کاملStability Analysis for a Saline Boundary Layer Formed by Uniform Up ow Using Finite Elements
Up owing salty groundwater, evaporating completely at the ground surface, leads to the buildup of a saline boundary layer, usually with solid salt on the surface. The di usion layer below the surface, if stable, may grow to a nite thickness at equilibrium between the up owing salt and downward di usion. Because of the di erent densities of the uids (low fresh water density in the deeper undergr...
